Hillary Clinton Hires Peter Daou

On Friday, I ripped on Senator Hillary Clinton not getting the netroots (here and here). Today I've learned that Senator Clinton has hired Peter Daou.

If -- and this is still to be seen -- Clinton listens to Daou this will likely end up as the smartest strategic decision that the Clinton campaign has made to date.

Too often campaigns hire people to do online outreach, but they are considered an after thought. The Netroots Coordinator should be a top staffer, integrated into everything the campaign does. Peter Daou isn't a smart hire because he understands blogs and the blogosphere, but because he is one of the most knowledgable people when it comes to understanding our current communications environment.

If you ask Clinton a year from now, I'm willing to bet she'll tell you this was the best investment she has made politically.
