San Francisco's next Treasurer?

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom hit the political jackpot when he convinced SF Treasurer Susal Leal to become the next General Manager of the Public Utilities Commission. In addition to the obvious political score of being able to appoint Leal's successor, Newsom will also be able to sleep well at night knowing that there is a competent manager in charge of rebuilding the entire Hetch-Hetchy water system.

But back to the juicy political stuff. After spending some late nights in cheap bars, one dark horse candidate keeps coming up.

It isn't Supervisor Aaron Peskin (too bad, the guy is such a cheap-wad he would probably do a good job). It isn't Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval (too bad for Sandoval, the guy is a few months away from losing his job). It isn't Babs, it isn't Hall.

Well try this on for a resume:

His "exceptional skills and knowledge, combined with his perspective as a gay Latino Asian American, equip him well to lead..." - Plug from Senator Barbara Boxer

Former Chief Assistant Treasurer for the City and County of San Francisco.

Staff Director and Senior Policy Advisor for the National Economic Council (NEC) at the White House

The first gay man and first person of color to serve as PFLAG's executive director.
